Best Android Apps in 2025

A playlist of the best Android apps available today

Searching for the best Android apps can be a difficult endeavor, which is exactly why Android Police is here to help report apps today. We've handpicked out the most popular and noteworthy apps on the platform, great for any phone from budget hardware to high-end flagship software. So, whether you're new to Android or you've been here for years, think of today's report as the best list – the cream of the crop that few can't live without.

Just like the best Android gaming report, our best app report is a perfect starting point, especially as the list is constantly growing with new apps with each update. If you don't see your favorite app listed, make sure your voice isn't heard in the comments.

Google Maps

Let's easily start with Google Maps. It's an app I'm sure most of us have used and are familiar with, but that doesn't diminish the usefulness of this list. Google Maps is a staple, not to mention the go-to-map software for mobile devices, and for good reason, this is still one of the best mapping and navigation software currently available.

Google Maps is an excellent app to search for food to eat, gas stations to stop at, and you can even review places you've visited. Plus, the mobility aspect is great. Although I know people love Waze, there's no denying that Google Maps is being used by more people, allowing their collective content to grow consistently with a clip much faster than any other map software out there. So whether you're looking to share a trip, the nearest cycling route, or simply want to know how long to walk to the grocery store, Google Maps is where you'll most likely look for that information.

Duolingo: language lessons

Learning a new language is difficult, but there are plenty of apps that can help with that, with Duolingo as a premium site covering more than 35 languages through small-sized easily digestible lessons. Basically, the company has learned new languages, and it is not surprising that this method helps keep users motivated. You can even track your progress to make sure you achieve your goals.

Keep in mind that if you choose to use the app for free, the content will be limited. There's an optional subscription of $6.99 per month, and the first 14 days with full access are free, so you can check everything before you get out of your pocket. So if you have the desire to learn a new language or simply want to choose some useful phrases for your next trip, Duolingo is definitely easy to use, thanks to the accessible lessons.

Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard

One of the great things about Android is its versatility: you can use third-party tools to replace some of your core components, such as your software keyboard. So if you're not a Gboard fan, or want to test an option that many Android users consider better, Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard might be what you're looking for.

SwiftKey is a full-featured software keyboard, now owned by Microsoft, that offers to the table excellent swipe input. Like many software keyboard apps, this version learns from your typing, so ideally, its predictions improve the more you use it.

Sync for reddit (Pro)

There are many Reddit apps, some came and went, others stopped. One of the mainstays is Sync for reddit, it's been around for years, with active development all the time, and it's my personal go-to Reddit app. It's easy to use, suitable for phones and tablets alike, and you can even browse Reddit when its servers run into issues, which seems to have often been in the past few years.

Like all Reddit apps, issues can arise, but at least the developer responds, so you know that these issues won't last long. Reddit syncing has been there for ten years, but it's still popular because it's reliable.

Tor Browser: official, private and secure

Tor Browser is a privacy tool, a browser that blocks trackers and fingerprints while also providing encryption. It's also a useful tool to get around any sites blocked by your ISP or state, just like a VPN. Best of all, it's open source, which means it's completely free to use and will always be. Whether you're a security-conscious user or simply want to wander through restricted sites or onion sites, the Android version of Tor Browser is definitely an app that must be installed to make sure it's there when you need it.

Twitch: Live Stream Game

If you play video games, you've probably heard of Twitch. It's a gaming streaming platform, now owned by Amazon, and it's the place to view and stream gaming videos. Whether you want to check out the mechanism of a new release, or simply want to know how old games are handled, Twitch probably has this content. And if there's something you feel is missing, you can rotate your flow to fill that gap in the market. You can watch for free because the service is ad-supported, and if you want to stream, you can subscribe to their channel for $4.99 while earning some perks. Two more subscription levels are available for $9.99 and $24.99.

Sketchbook

There are many apps if you want to draw and draw on your Android device, but the Sketchbook outperforms the rest thanks to its ease of use and thoughtful design. Nothing messy at all, yet all your tools are usually one-click. The app supports layers, and thanks to a wide range of brush and pencil/pencil tips, you'll never be left in a blurred position and want more. So if you're interested in drawing, like black books for graffiti designs, Sketchbook is a beautiful tool that eliminates the need for paper. In addition, the app is free, something that the competition simply does not offer.

Tasker

This one for all your automation nuts out there. Tasker is one of the most powerful tools on Android, and despite Google's constant curtailment of access to the operating system, the app has continued to find an audience, a testament to how useful Tasker is.

There are more than 350 different actions available to set up your automation (all without having to root access), such as turning on dark mode at a certain time of day or automatically turning off notifications as soon as you connect to your home wifi after work. Although I don't call the app intuitive, those who spend their time figuring things out will be rewarded. There's a 7-day free trial for anyone who wants to take a look, and if you like what you see, you can open the full app with one purchase.

Google Drive

There are many cloud storage solutions out there, but considering that we all use Android phones, it makes sense that Google's cloud storage option has some of the best integrations with the operating system and its apps. For me, I'm a great reader, and I prefer to keep my eBooks on a local drive, but I also keep my core materials in the cloud so I can easily access them no matter what reading app I use at the appointment.

It's rare for an Android app not to offer Drive support if it also offers support for other cloud storage services. In addition, with the Drive app installed, you won't even have to rely on other apps with built-in connections to Drive. Everywhere, Drive is one of the most convenient cloud storage services for Android users, and because it is an app that many of us rely on every day, it is easily one of the best apps that ever exist.

Twilio Authy 2-Factor authentication

There are more than a few two-factor authentication apps on the Play Store, and even Google offers one. Twilio (formerly known as Authy) has the ability to save your information in the cloud, which means that if you change devices too often, you won't be disqualified. In this way, you can easily transfer phone to phone and from tablet to tablet, over the years, and you will still have access to all the accounts you have stored in Twilio.

Really, who can remember all the accounts for which two workers were run? I know I always forget, which is exactly why two-factor authentication is always Twilio. This way, anytime a site or service asks for a binary code, all I have to do is install Twilio on any Android device, and I'm all set.

Music player Poweramp

If you are looking to play locally stored music with one of the best audio engines out there, Poweramp Music Player is this app. Not only is this the old king, but it has also been updated many times over the years to offer a better and better experience. If you are interested in FLAC files and other lossless files, this is one of the best apps available to play.

Poweramp is an audio player for music lovers and is also great for everyone else. To this day, you can still unlock Poweramp's full feature set with a single purchase, which is great for an eleven-year-old app that has stood the test of time.

YouTube

What is the best Android app list ever without YouTube on it? As everyone knows well, YouTube is the go-to service for community-made video content. It also features all the Play Store movies we've bought, plus there's plenty of music out there, along with an endless sea of tutorials, reviews, and a first theme. The answers to all life questions are scattered somewhere in the ministry, and it's just a matter of looking for them so that you are better informed. In addition, many make their living posting content on the site.

YouTube is basically its own video content ecosystem, an endless stream of information accessible to everyone, and because of that, it's probably one of the most used mobile apps. If you watch video content, you have most likely used YouTube multiple times. This is an app that needs no introduction, but it is one of the most powerful tools available to us, which is why it is in the best report today.

Hard File Manager Explorer

There are a large number of file managers available on the Play Store, and Solid Explorer has somehow managed to remain one of the best options. Not only does this app work great on Android TV and Chromebooks, but it's also useful on Android phones and tablets. The number of features available inflates the inventory options pre-installed on our machines out of the water.

Solid Explorer offers built-in cloud storage support, including Drive, as well as archiving support, which means you can easily open RAR files (ideal for those of us who collect archived comics in CBRs). There's also built-in NAS support and FTP support, not to mention a host of themes. Anyone can try the app for free, and if you want to unlock the app, you can do so with an in-app purchase. Some jobs are sold hash, but these are the more specialized options that most people won't use.

ZOOM Cloud Meetings

Thanks to Covid, I'm sure a few of you are familiar with the ZOOM video conferencing service. The app is free and supports up to 100 participants in its free meetings, which is exactly why the service is so hot right now. There are also paid plans, these plans range from $16 per month to $20, and these plans increase the number of participants allowed to 1,000 while extending the time limit allowed for these streams.

No matter how you divide it, ZOOM is one of the best video conferencing apps out there. It's easy to set up, and unless you're running a large company, you can easily use it for free with friends and family, even on Chromebooks.

Bitwarden Password Manager

Password managers may not appeal to everyone, especially since Google offers a manager built into Chrome, but if you're looking for an extra bit of security, Bitwarden Password Manager is one of the best options available. Unlimited passwords are supported, plus these passwords are protected by a lot of encryption, including AES-256-bit, salted hashtags, and PBKDF2 SHA-256 keys. There's also a built-in password generator, so you won't have to think about your passwords.

Bitwarden is also a cross-platform service, which means you're covered by other operating systems. Basically, Bitwarden offers all the features you'd expect from the most popular subscription apps, except that it's open source, and there's a free category for individuals. Don't get much better than this. this, even if you want to subscribe to the premium tier, it doesn't exceed $10 per year.

Zillo: houses and apartments

Straight, who doesn't like to look at the houses available on the market while dreaming big dreams? Zillow is probably the most popular real estate app of all time, and for good reason, it's amazing to look at. Choose a city, and then start looking at the numerous photos of each house that amaze you. Estimated prices are included, along with general taxes, which means you can quickly determine if a home fits your current budget. You can even schedule tours of these houses within the app, and you can make presentations. this, even if you are only looking for photos of exotic houses and crime scenes, this is the app for you.

Professional minimalist gallery: photos

Simple Mobile Tools is a staple on Android, and few of its apps have been paid, with Simple Gallery Pro topping the charts as one of the most prominent features. There's also a deprecated free version, although the Pro app is easily worth $1.30. Not only are there a lot of sorting options for the gallery, but there is also a built-in editor. Compared to photo apps shipped with Android devices, Simple Gallery Pro is a fresh breath. Many consider it the best gallery app on the platform, and I agree with that.

Spotify: Music & Podcasts

I used to be a strong FLAC fanatic, I only play my music files locally, and they never stream. It took a holiday sale on Spotify (Hulu free) to take on tour, and while I wasn't impressed at first, once I created a library of my favorite music, Spotify became more infinitely useful. The way I see it is that I pay Spotify monthly not only to access a lot of music but for Spotify recommendations. Specifically weekly detection and radar launch. These weekly custom playlists are how I now discover a huge amount of new music, better worlds than the crawling I used to do on Amazon and iTunes for new releases.

For someone who rarely feels that subscriptions are worth it, Spotify is still worth every penny every month. Sure, there are some downsides, such as live music in playlists, remixes, as well as the constant assault on podcast promotion, so not everything is under the sun and rainbows, but I still find a better music streaming service, and that comes from a Play Music Converter .

MX Player Pro

Of all the native video players on Android, MX Player is one of the oldest video players, yet it is still one of the best video players currently available, if not not, all thanks to its extensive video coding support. Sure, you can view most videos in photos or any of the manufacturer's built-in players, but the MX always works better. It is easy to use on phone and tablet and more useful on Chromebooks and Android TV. I haven't yet found a file that this video player can't play. Even if you get most of your media from the high seas, MX Player shouldn't get stuck.

MyRadar Weather Radar Free Advertising

I have been using Android since the beginning, and over the years, I have installed many different weather apps in an endless search to find the most accurate and beautiful app out there. I'm still in the hunt, however MyRadar is one of the first apps I install on every new Android device. Being able to view an animated weather map definitely helps me determine the direction of storms, and there is also a quick view of the current temperature and prediction if I am in a hurry.

The app map provides plenty of filters to navigate to the view you want, and there's also a video section for those who prefer to watch someone report the weather. So, if you need a weather app with one of the best radar views available, MyRadar is an excellent option, especially since most phones now come with their own weather apps that don't provide a detailed radar view.

VLC for Android

The two primary video players for Android are VLC and MX Player. Usually, when one doesn't work well with your video format, the other will – so if you happen to upload a lot of your video files and are looking for a powerful and trustworthy video player, VLC will easily work in a pinch, especially if the other media player fails to play your current file.

Ultimately, the ability to choose a local video player allows third parties like VLC to offer their wares just as they would on a PC. What's great is that the Android version is just as reliable as its PC counterpart, which is why VLC is easily one of the most used video players on the Android platform.

FL Studio Mobile

If you're in music production, you've probably heard of FruityLoops. For sure. The voice work platform may now be called FL Studio, but in our hearts, it will always be FruityLoops. Dating back to 1997 on PC, FL is a popular audio platform that makes it easy to create music tracks by drawing them on-screen (like Sony's Acid Pro), with built-in step sequencers so users can build and then draw those tracks together in order to compose a song.

Audio recording is supported, along with MIDI controller support as well as MIDI file export and import operations. The app works on both Android and ChromeOS, with trackpad and mouse support out of the box. Not very shabby.

Netflix

What's the best Android app report ever without Netflix on the list? Of all the video streaming services, Netflix ranks top, along with Youtube, but since Netflix focuses more on Hollywood-like content, this is the place to go for many of the best movies and TV shows available in 2021 (when does Stranger Things season four start, I'm getting impatient, and I need to fix).

The Basic plan starts at $8.88, the standard is $13.99, and the standard premium is $17.99. If you want to watch 4K content, the Premium plan is what you're looking for. In general, Netflix is available almost everywhere, and since many TVs are now Android TVs, there is a good chance of using the Android app. So if you're a subscriber, you can now access a few Android games, with more to come.

Shazam: Discovering Music

Shazam is a music recognition and discovery app that has been available on Android for 13 years. It's been a long time since the app was supported, and the crazy thing is that this app is free, without any ads either. Shazam's great app is still here, and this has to do with how well it works. Sure, Google and other phone manufacturers offer similar apps and functions, but Shazam is independent and offers a host of additional features to easily detect once you select a tone.

So, if you ever need to know who wrote some random songs playing, tap on your phone, launch this app, and answer just a few moments away, to begin your journey to discover what that band and similar artists should do to show.

bye mind

There are an unlimited number of banking and money apps on the Play Store, yet PayPal still manages to be the best. Personally, I use the app and service as a shield for online purchases, and I never harness my credit or debit cards, allowing PayPal to do all the work so I have a way to easily return in the event of a dispute. PayPal still leans on the side of buyers, not sellers, which is excellent for us consumers (but probably not great for all the eBay sellers out there).

PayPal offers biometrics for easy login, alerts anytime money leaves or goes, and you can even make transfers directly from your device. While I'll never replace my bank with PayPal, the conveniences and protections that the app provides on the table are definitely worth the effort of linking a bank account.

DoorDash

Food delivery services certainly exploded during the coronavirus outbreak, and despite the strain, DoorDash is still on the move. Yes, Uber Eats is also an excellent option, but I find that the service offers fewer restaurants, so I'm a DoorDash user. This may vary from region to region, although I find the app much easier to use than the Uber option. Finding the restaurants I'm looking for is easy, and tracking is reliable so I know when my order will arrive. Even fees and deals tend to be better on DoorDash compared to many of its competitors.

Well, if you find that you use the app all the time, there is also a subscription available that cuts all the delivery fees for DoorDash. Although I don't order as much as I want, the convenience of eating Indian, Mexican, Thai, Japanese and southern foods at my fingertips is hard to resist.

Snapseed

For many years, Android has lacked high-quality photo editing apps, but with the release of Snapseed, this is no longer the case. To better illustrate what I mean, we have writers who use this app exclusively for photo editing on both Chromebooks and Android devices. It is a powerful editing application that will give professionals and amateurs an easy way to correct and edit their photos without having to go to a desktop computer with a full-featured app. Snapseed may not be an alternative to the desktop version of Photoshop, but it certainly outperforms the mobile version.

So, if you ever need to edit an image in a jiffy but require something more powerful than the inventory options on your device, Snapseed is the way to move to the mobile AP, and best of all, it's free.

telegram

Of all the messaging apps on the Play Store, why should I choose Telegram ? Well, first of all, I would love that Telegram offers many applications, even for Linux, that cover the needs of Desktop Messenger for the three major desktop operating systems. After all, if I am using a messenger, I want to be able to receive these messages on the devices I use at the time. In addition, encrypted chats are available, although you will have to enter these chats manually, unlike Signal. A lot of themes are available for those of you in customization, and messages tend to be delivered super fast (especially compared to SMS).

Telegram runs halfway. It has enough features to compete with adults, but it also offers more security than many, and you can't discount these desktop apps because they are very easy to use. The only downside is to convince your friends and family to do the switch.

Samsung Internet Browser

At this point, anyone on Android should be familiar with Chrome, but Chrome probably won't do it for you. Well, surprisingly, Samsung has created a useful browser that stays out of your way, based on Chromium for a familiar feel, but without all the junk Google files, Chrome is endlessly replete. It is a clean browser that loads content quickly, making it an excellent backup browser, but it also shines with regular use since browsing without bloat is the primary focus.

The app is free to use, even if you don't own a Samsung device, so there's no harm in checking it. And I know that Samsung may not have the best reputation when bloat is a topic of discussion, but in this case, Samsung Internet Browser is a purpose-built version of the company that provides services.

Uber

Ridesharing has easily changed the number of people moving between us and Uber is still king. More drivers drive for this service than the rest, which means you'll be able to ride a horse faster. Yes, the extra fees seem to be constantly increasing, and there is also a subscription for those who use the app frequently, but that doesn't change how useful the app and this service are.

Stuck at the airport? Contact Uber. The car broke down and I had to leave it at the mechanic? Contact Uber. The uses are endless, allowing people to get around easily while reducing drunk drivers when the rails go out. The app itself is very intuitive, although the design changes all the time (calm down, Uber). However, Uber has literally changed the number of people who use transportation, and if you live in a city, that's pretty cool.
