Samsung makes a new headset to take advantage of the metaverse noise
Metaverse is the latest buzzword in the tech industry. While the general public's understanding of the concept may still be limited, tech companies consider it the place to be. The hype is real and Samsung wants to take advantage of it.
It's been several years since we got a new Samsung VR headset. There is a chance that the company will finally return to the extended reality industry. We will have the metaverse to thank him for that.
Samsung headphones may be back
Samsung was among the first OEMs to really jump into the VR bandwagon. The Gear VR headphones were liberally introduced as incentives for pre-ordering their flagship phones. These were also cheap since all the processing was done by the smartphone itself.
The company abandoned the Odyssey and Gear VR headphones before the metaverse became superbulous. Many analysts have recently wondered why Samsung cedes space in this growing industry to its competitors. It turns out that the company does not plan to do this longer.
Samsung Electronics CEO Han Jong-hee gave a hint at MWC 2022 about the possibility that the company could make an extended realistic headset that works with metaverse platforms. Speaking to reporters, Han said that "(Metaverse-related devices) are now the talk of the city, so we have done the job of dealing with that trend. It won't take long."
He did not provide any further details about the headset itself. It's unclear what functions it might have, whether it's a head-mounted screen, a pair of smart glasses, or any other form factor. "We strive for perfection as we prepare to go," which is promising.
Samsung already maintains its presence in the metaverse. It even aired the launch of the Galaxy S22 series in its virtual world. So it's no surprise that it now seems that the company is now more interested in the metaverses.
