LPDDR5X memory compatibility with advanced Snapdragon processors
Samsung's LPDDR5X RAM is compatible with advanced Snapdragon processors
Samsung is the world's largest memory chip manufacturer and is often the first company to introduce new memory technologies. Earlier today, the company announced that its LPDDR5X DRAM has been validated for use with Qualcomm's high-end mobile platforms.
According to a Samsung press release, Qualcomm has validated the possibility of using the 14nm 16GB RAM chips LPDDR5X the South Korean company with high-end Snapdragon processors. The new DRAM chips offer data transfer speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps, which is 1.2 times faster than the typical 6.4 Gbps LPDDR5 DRAM chipset used on many mobile devices. These chips are used in the Galaxy S22 series that was unveiled last month.
Thanks to improved circuit designs, dynamic voltage and frequency range expansion, Samsung's new LPDDR5X DRAM chipsets offer up to 20% less power consumption. These chips can provide better performance in AI tasks such as image recognition, natural language processing (NLP), and voice recognition in the next generation of smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
Jinman Han, the company's executive vice president and head of global memory sales and marketing at Samsung Electronics, said, "The successful validation of the LPDDR5X solution for Qualcomm Technologies' Snapdragon mobile platforms is a testament to our leadership in DRAM technology. We expect applications of this high-performance, low-power memory to extend beyond smartphones to the data center, PC, and automobiles, enabling more devices and systems to run more efficiently. "
