WhatsApp is making a dream come true for many: Organize your chats into lists like Telegram folders

Last month, WhatsApp added a Favorites section as a way to keep your most important conversations at your fingertips at all times. Now, the app seems set to take the concept one step further, letting you create custom lists with chats and groups.

WhatsApp is working on letting us organize our conversations into custom lists in a way that's a lot like Telegram's folders. This is something that can already be done, in some form or another, in WhatsApp Business, but it will be available to all users in the future.

Until recently, all WhatsApp chats were the same, but then came pinned chats, filters, and especially favorites. Favorites are basically a list of personal chats or groups that you can filter using the favorites filter, but obviously they won't be the only ones.

We learned from WaBetaInfo that WhatsApp is working on custom lists, which can be configured from a new section in WhatsApp settings called “Lists.”

The setup will be very similar to the Favorites settings, where you can add any chat or group to the list, but with the big difference that you can name the list whatever you want. So, you can create a list for coworkers, another for childhood friends, another for family, and another for your friends team (for example).

We’ve now seen how these lists will be created, but we still don’t know how we can use them to filter our conversations. It would be a good idea to have them appear as an additional section at the top of the WhatsApp app, but that hasn’t been leaked yet. If you’ve been waiting for years for WhatsApp to let you do this, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
