How to turn off or restart your Samsung Galaxy S22

One of the frustrating changes Samsung has made in recent years is how phones shutting down and restarting work works. The method you may be used to does not work by default. We will show you how to do it on the Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

There are actually two methods you can use to turn off or restart your Galaxy S22 series. This also applies to older Samsung Galaxy devices. We will start with the simple method that does not require any configuration.

Open the Power menu from Quick Settings

First, swipe down from the top of the screen twice to reveal the full quick settings panel.

After that, click on the power icon at the top right.

This will bring up the power menu and you can "shut down" or "restart" the device!

Enable the power menu from the side switch

Samsung doesn't connect the button on the side of the Galaxy S22 to the "Power Button" for some reason. By default, pressing and holding the "side key" will alert Bixby. Let's change that.

First, let's scroll down once from the top of the screen and click on the gear icon.

Next, go to "Advanced Features".

Find and select "Side Key".

Finally, switch the "Press and Hold" action to "Off menu".

Now, when you press and hold the "side switch" also known as the power button, you will see the power menu as you expect.

It's annoying that Samsung is still pushing Bixby so hard. There are a few reasons to use Bixby, but not many people want to access it quickly..
