Mass escape from X to this new social network
These days are really turbulent for X (formerly known as Twitter). After the presidential election in the United States, the atmosphere on the social network became completely different, prompting thousands of users to decide to close their accounts. Some media outlets have even reported that they are abandoning X.Now the biggest beneficiary is: Bluesky.
X has been the main protagonist of the election campaign in the United States, since Elon Musk co-supported Donald Trump. Something that gave him the position of White House adviser. In these weeks, uncontrolled hoaxes or hatred have created an environment that has been classified as toxic.
Bluesky initially relied on a closed invitation system, which meant it had a very small user base. Since it was fully opened to all users, it has already seen significant growth. All because X users are not at all satisfied with the politicization that is happening.
At the end of October, we already saw how the change in X policies allowed anyone we blocked to continue seeing our posts. This caused the first major migration of users with an increase of two million weekly users to Bluesky. But from that moment this growth has not stopped.
Bluesky downloads have not stopped increasing in recent weeks. This has led to it appearing at the top of the positions in the App Store or Google Play app stores. The increases of 624% in the past week are undoubtedly surprising numbers. According to TechCrunch reports, most of the new users come directly from the US, Canada, and the UK. This is where the biggest activity is recorded. Especially in the United States because of the post-election movement.
Reports indicate that since November 5 (election day) the app has gained 100,000 new users daily. This also translates to 10 million followers per day and 18 million likes per day.
If we stick to the statistics published by Bsky Stats, the platform currently has a base of 14.6 million users. There is no doubt that this number will rise. Although the thing that is also observed in this data is that after the "boom" many people stopped using it, so you should know if the retention rate will eventually improve.
