Surprise! Samsung Galaxy Ring Is Unrepairable
The Samsung Galaxy Ring (also known as the Samsung Galaxy Ring) is one of the most innovative wearables on the market right now. However, a detailed teardown by iFixit has revealed some major flaws that could affect your purchasing decision.
Samsung Galaxy Ring has strong specs but hard to replace battery
The main problem with the Samsung Galaxy Ring is its unrepairable design. According to iFixit’s breakdown, there’s no way to replace the battery without destroying the entire device. Since all other components are soldered together, any attempt to repair the ring would be virtually impossible. The process of disassembling the ring involves melting the epoxide resin layer inside and scraping it off with a special tool.
Despite its repairability, the Samsung Galaxy Ring has impressive specs. It features a Nordic Semiconductor nRF5340 processor that features two Arm Cortex-M33 cores, 512KB of RAM, and 1MB of storage. The ring also has a small wireless charging coil and battery next to it, as well as an NFC tag and antenna to transmit the signal between the ring and the paired smartphone.
It's worth noting that the charging coil in the Samsung Galaxy Ring isn't soldered to the circuit board (PCB) unlike other smart ring devices, but instead relies on an easy-to-repair push-button connector. The irony is that the circuit board is sealed inside the ring frame, meaning there's no way to replace the component without breaking the ring.
Is the Samsung Galaxy Ring worth buying?
If you are looking for a wearable device that features innovation and advanced technology, the Samsung Galaxy Ring may be a good option for you, however, you should keep in mind its limited lifespan due to the non-replaceable battery.
