Goodbye Waze: Google Maps Now Includes Its Best Feature to Warn You of Police on the Road
For millions of users around the world, Google Maps has long been the go-to tool for finding the perfect route or hidden places, whether for special occasions or every day on the road.
The ideal route is not always the shortest, but the one with the fewest accidents, which is why Google Maps will improve by integrating hazard and accident reports from Waze , the latter known for being interactive, engaging and, above all, accurate.
Some users have started seeing these types of notifications. For example, Reddit user u/Truckin_18 shared this screenshot in which you can see the following alert: “Police reported a head,” confirming the information that Google Maps will notify you of police on your route.
On the other hand, as you can see, these alerts have a little text at the bottom that says “From Waze Drivers” and allows you to select “Yes” or “No” to check if the police are still there or if they are no longer there.
So, this is a somewhat collaborative function between drivers to keep each other informed in real time, not only about police presence, but also about potential accidents or other incidents that cause traffic to collapse. Additionally, to reduce distractions on the road, these alerts automatically disappear after a short period, although they can also be manually ignored.
Right now, only some users in certain areas have reported seeing these Waze alerts on Google Maps, so it looks like the rollout will be gradual and we'll have to wait for it to reach everyone.
