Discover the most advanced Chinese spy virus in history
The dangers lurking on the Internet are numerous due to the wide range of methods used by cybercriminals and the latest one is a virus developed in China with more advanced capabilities. This is a potential danger that must be known in advance to avoid falling into the trap.
Researchers at Lookout Threat Lab have discovered a spyware known as EagleMsgSpy, which is being used by Chinese security forces to collect information about mobile phones and their contents. However, it is a type of malware that has been present on Android for several years and has managed to survive despite security updates that have been made over time.
The researchers themselves confirm that this spyware has been in use since 2017, although its main drawback is that physical access to the device is required to start spying on the user. The information from the investigation indicates that the malware consists of a component that law enforcement officers themselves install when they have access to the phone, while, once inside, it is responsible for storing and collecting a large amount of private data. At the moment, no anomalies have been observed when downloading applications from the Google Play Store or other stores.
Among the information that the Chinese spy virus was able to access is the following data:
- Collect all messages from Telegram, WhatsApp, WeChat...
- Record screen and take screenshots.
- Capture audio while using the phone.
- Collect call logs, contacts, SMS...
- Access the list of installed applications.
-Retrieves a list of GPS coordinates.
- Access Wi-Fi connection details.
- Access files on external storage.
-Access browser bookmarks.
The lead researcher at Lookout Threat Lab points out that the Chinese spyware EagleMsgSpy is used by several public security agencies in China. This may suggest that you are safe from this virus, but this type of malware evolves over time and it is possible to see it in other countries internationally.
Cybercriminals are not exactly stupid, and they often exploit existing malware code to create new ones. This means you should take precautions to avoid falling victim to the scam, although the truth is that the Chinese virus seems to be more responsible for monitoring Chinese citizens than stealing personal information such as bank account numbers, dates of birth, and documents…
