WhatsApp's latest feature you'll love if you use group chats

WhatsApp has been updated with a very useful feature for those who use group chats. The latest version adds an important feature to community group chats that will provide more information to users. The app wants to make sure that people are aware of the purpose of the group, so it will offer its creators the option to write a short description.

According to WABetaInfo , the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS is implementing a feature to add group descriptions. Content creators can fill in a text field with information they deem relevant. This way, new members will have the option to read it before joining.

Group descriptions are not mandatory, however, WhatsApp recommends that creators use them. One of the pillars of the app is communication, which is why it seeks to ensure clear descriptions in community group chats. Although this feature is already seen in groups, WhatsApp will bring it to communities to expand its functionality.

Community group chat descriptions are available in WhatsApp for iOS 24.16.75. At the moment, this feature is only offered to users who are part of the beta program, so we will have to wait a few weeks to see if it will be implemented in the general public version.

Let's remember that not all features that make it to beta appear in the app. The most important ones usually spend weeks or months in testing before they make their debut in the final release. Others simply disappear and we never hear about them.

Lately, WhatsApp has been investing resources into enhancing group chats and communities. As the world’s most used messaging app, it’s no surprise that Meta would want to offer alternatives beyond one-on-one messaging. Group chats have become one of the most popular features, so Meta has been making improvements to how they work.
