Protect your files and prevent them from being accidentally deleted or modified by malware with this handy program

Ransomware is considered malware that encrypts the victim's files. The cybercriminal responsible for this attack is allowed to demand a ransom to restore the victim's data. Usually the victim is instructed to pay the fee in exchange for decrypting these files.

This payment is mostly in bitcoin or any other untraceable cryptocurrency. It happens when victims download suspicious programs and files through unknown sources. Ransomware usually encrypts and renames files as well, and also changes their file extension.

You may be wondering is there a way to decrypt infected files without paying the attacker's commission. In fact, there are plenty of ways to decrypt different types of ransom files and they vary by degree, but the most important thing to know is that at the end of the process, files cannot be decrypted without a secret key known only to the attacker.

To prevent file encryption and counter such an attack, today we are going to learn a way to make our files unmodifiable and read-only.

FileProtection is a relatively simple plug- in that can help you ensure the security of your important files. The program prevents the deletion or modification of important and sensitive files and protects them from the danger of ransomware by making them readable only. This makes it impossible to modify or delete them until the protection is removed.

Once FileProtection is installed, you can right-click on any file or folder to access the new functionality added to the context menu. You will right-click on the file and choose File Protection.

After completing the previous step, a dot will appear in the left corner below the file icon indicating that the file in question is protected and cannot be edited. If an unauthorized user attempts to unlock the protected file, he must enter the program's password. It can be set by accessing the program settings menu.
