How to cancel the password request in Windows 11
How to cancel the password request in Windows 11 when turning on the computer
Although using a password or authenticating via other login options such as a fingerprint reader or facial recognition is always recommended to keep your computer or laptop safe and also to keep your files away from prying eyes, entering a password may seem redundant. Every time you turn on the computer.
For example, if your computer is only used by you, you don't store important files on it, or you don't care about security in general, there is no need for a password when you log into Windows. The reasons can be multiple, and requirements may vary from person to person. But in general, if you want to cancel the password request and log in automatically in Windows 11, it can be achieved through the steps listed below.
Let's agree in principle that the process may seem a little complicated, especially if you use a Microsoft account to sign in in Windows 11, as there is no easy option that can be disabled to cancel the password prompt every time you need to turn on the computer, but at least the Windows system has a "Sign in" feature. Automatic Sign-in, which requires the password in certain cases, but you will not have to type it in after turning on the computer, which saves time. To activate it, you will need to apply several steps first, so continue reading the following lines carefully.
For your information, the Automatic Sign-in feature was available to activate in all versions of Windows until Microsoft released the 2004 version of Windows 10, which is known as the May 2020 Update. However, it is still possible to bring the feature back in Windows 11 by making a small modification in the Windows Registry. So this will be the first step to cancel the password request in Windows 11 when you turn on the computer.
To get started, press Win + R together on your keyboard to open the Run window. Then type "regedit" in the entry field and press OK to launch the Registry Editor tool. Then just go to the following path:
MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device
After accessing the Device folder, double-click on the value called “DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion” to change its default value in the Value data field from 2 to 0, then press OK to save the change. You can then close the Registry Editor window.
Now again press Win + R together on the keyboard to open Run window and then type “netplwiz” and press OK. The User Accounts window will open after that and in the Users section you will find an option called “Users must enter a user name and password to use this PC” which is the option that represents the Automatic Sign-in feature. If you do not make changes to the registry, you will not see this option. Generally, all that is required now is to remove the [✔️] mark from this option and press Apply, then it will ask you to enter the password for the Microsoft account or the local account of the computer, enter the password twice and press OK.
By applying the previous steps, you have successfully enabled the Automatic Sign-in feature, but note that it will not log you in automatically after turning on the computer if Windows Hello is enabled, that is, if you activate the fingerprint reader, face recognition feature, or a PIN code to protect the computer, Windows will still require identity verification via one of these methods and will not allow automatic login. Then you have to disable Windows Hello and it's very simple, just open the Settings app from the Start menu or by pressing Win key + I [e] together, then go to the Accounts section and press Sign-in options.
Now press PIN, Fingerprint recognition, or Facial recognition (depending on the alternative method you use to log into Windows 11 instead of entering the password), then press the Remove button, and you will be prompted to type the password for your Microsoft account or local account to confirm the cancellation. This disables Windows Hello on the computer.
From now on, you can automatically log in to Windows 11 without a password after performing the following steps as you will be accessed to your desktop immediately after the boot process is completed.
