If you use the Google Chrome browser, you know that you can search by typing text in the URL bar. However, some people don't like this, and for these people, there are many options for adding a search box in your browser. One of the best options is the Google Chrome extension called SearchBar.

Add SearchBar to Google Chrome

You can add the SearchBar extension to Google Chrome through the Chrome Web Store through this link. After installing the extension, you will find the Show/Hide search bar button on the toolbar. Click to open a separate search bar in the browser, as shown below.

You can now use this separate search box instead of the URL bar to search for pages. Enter keywords in the text box, press a search engine button, then submit the search to the selected engine.

SearchBar allows you to add many other search engine options. Press the options button (gear icon in the search bar). Then click Custom Search to open the page below. Some search engines are listed that are not selected, so please click the unselected checkbox to add their button to the search bar.

If you need to add a search engine that isn't listed here, open it in your browser and right-click its search field. Then select the "Add to SearchBar" option in the context menu. This will open a window as shown in the screenshot below.

You can set keyboard shortcuts for the new search by entering the shortcut for the new search in the "Hotkeys" text box. Then press the Add to SearchBar button. You can now select a new search engine on the search bar.

By default, the page search bar opens on the same tab. However, when you click the search engine button on the ribbon, hold down the Ctrl key to open the list of pages in a new tab. You can also select the option "Open search results in a new tab by default" by clicking "Basic Settings" on the "Options" tab in the search bar.

So, now you can find pages with a separate search box in Google Chrome, just like in Firefox. When SearchBar adds a new search toolbar to the browser, it can effectively copy Google Toolbar into Chrome.
