Facebook want to change its name

Mark Zuckerberg wants to change Facebook's name , according to The Verge, which cites sources from the company itself. The name change will be announced at the company's annual Connect conference on October 28 and the goal of this strategy is to connect the company to the birth of the "metaverse."

Facebook is looking to delink the company's name from its main social network with a change that follows the goal of focusing on developing the "metaverse". It also aims to highlight the tech giant's ambition to be known for something more than social networking and all the evils that come with it. In this way, the social network will become another service that currently includes, such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus.

At the moment, the new name of Facebook is not known. However, records the company filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) have already provided some evidence. According to the USPTO database, the company has filed 7 new trademarks through its attorneys since February of this year.

Among the last names they sent are names like Stories. This term is commonly used to refer to Instagram posts that run 24 hours a day. In documents they sent to the USA office, the company indicated that the term stories will be used very broadly, from augmented and virtual reality experiences to “hardware and software development tools.”

Another name suggested by Facebook is Meta. In fact, the term was registered with the "Chan Zuckerberg Initiative", a non-profit organization owned by Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan.

The metaverse, as envisioned by Facebook, is a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences through the use of technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality. An environment in which you can be with people in digital spaces, and in which a sense of presence is extremely important.

As Facebook's Vice President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg and Vice President of Core Products Javier Olivian explain, by creating a greater sense of "virtual presence," online interaction can be much closer to the experience of interpersonal interaction. In this way, the metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social and economic opportunities.
