Google launches "Gemini" app for iPhone
Google announced the availability of the artificial intelligence application “Gemini” for iPhone phones, after starting to test the application in limited markets.
The free app is now available for download in Australia, India, the US and the UK, after a limited launch in the Philippines earlier this week.
The application is expected to be launched in many countries around the world in the coming few weeks.
Previously, iPhone users could access Gemini through the Google app, but there were some notable limitations that prevented the bot from being fully functional.
The standalone app includes Google's Gemini Live feature, which allows users to interact with the robot directly through the Dynamic Island and the iPhone's lock screen.
Google makes the app free to download , but it requires a subscription to the “Gemini Advanced” service to access all the available features. The advanced subscription includes the “Google One AI Premium” plan, which starts at $19 per month.
It is worth noting that the application is compatible with iPhones running iOS 16 and later, which means that older devices such as the iPhone 8 and iPhone X can run the application.
It is worth noting that the oldest iPhones that can run Apple Intelligence features are the iPhone 15 Pro, but Apple relies on the device's internal processing for its features, and if inquiries require more computing power, it uses its own servers.
Google was expected to launch a standalone AI app for iPhones, especially given reports ahead of Apple's WWDC 2024 developer conference that Apple was in talks with Google to integrate the AI bot directly into its devices.
