Fix it yourself Apple provides spare parts to repair iPhone 16 phones
Apple has started making it possible to order spare parts and tools for repairing various iPhone 16 phones through its self-service repair store in the United States and a number of European countries, about two months after the launch of these phones in the markets.
Available replacement parts include frequently used parts in repairs, such as displays, batteries, the rear camera, TrueDepth camera with Face ID, back glass, as well as the bottom and top speakers, and the main microphone.
Apple is also offering seven-day rentals of specialized repair kits for $49 in the US, available for all iPhone 16 models.
Apple launched the official iPhone 16 repair guides last September, and now customers can get all the necessary parts and tools through the self-repair store, enabling experienced users to carry out repairs themselves without going to maintenance centers.
The camera replacement costs $169 for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, while it goes up to $249 for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Displays range in price from $279 to $379, and batteries range in price from $99 to $119, depending on the model.
Apple launched the Apple Self-Repair Program in 2022, which aims to provide original spare parts, tools, and manuals to enable users to repair certain versions of iPhones and Macs, in addition to the Studio Display.
The company explained that the program is “intended for people with experience in repairing complex electronic devices,” and some repair manuals included warnings about safety risks.
Apple has been gradually shifting towards supporting repairs of its devices more, making the self-repair process less complicated and less expensive than before, especially if users can get used spare parts, a move that Apple now officially supports .
Third-party replacement parts, such as batteries and displays, are expected to become a more available option this year after Apple announced improved support for these parts.
