Google intends to launch the Gemini application for iPhone phones

Google is planning to launch its Gemini AI app for iPhones via the App Store, giving users direct access to AI features without having to use the main Google search app.

The new app has only been spotted on the App Store in the Philippines, with a message saying it’s “currently unavailable in your region” when trying to download it from any other country. It appears Google is currently conducting limited tests of the app in a number of countries before launching it more widely globally.

This development comes after a period of Gemini being available only through a dedicated tab within the Google app on iPhones and iPads.

With the new standalone app, users will notice a separate Gemini icon on the home screen, making it easier to directly access Google’s AI features. Previously, users had to open the Google app and switch to the Gemini tab to access these features.

Google updated its traditional iPhone app interface last September, adding customizable shortcuts to access Gemini with one touch via widgets, but the new standalone app promises a faster experience and regular updates.

The new app will provide access to the “ Gemini Live ” voice chat feature, a feature that has not yet been introduced in the main Google app.

One user's experience with the new app shows the use of Gemini Live voice commands, which remain active even while using other apps thanks to the Live Activity feature in iOS on iPhones.

The Gemini app on iPhone offers a similar user experience to the web version (gemini.google.com), and Google is expected to update the user interface to match the app's interface on Android devices.

The standalone app is expected to help Google deliver faster updates to users, similar to the Google Assistant app  for iPhones and iPads.
