Android will allow you to quickly and easily connect to public Wi-Fi networks
Today we have public Wi-Fi networks almost everywhere, be it in supermarkets, shopping malls, train stations and airports, although some of them may end up being fraudulent, so you need to be especially careful.
However, when we want to securely connect to a public Wi-Fi network, we see that the relevant captive portal appears where we have to enter a series of credentials or data.
You can say that a captive portal is the initial login page you see before you can connect to a public Wi-Fi network.
Generally, these restricted portals ask us to enter some specific credentials or data.
Since these restricted portals are opened to us through the Android System WebView application, we cannot access any previously saved login information or auto-complete, this makes it difficult to access these restricted portals as we have to access them by manually entering different credentials or data.
This will change, as Google is preparing for Android to open these captive portal pages in a dedicated tab instead of a web view. Once implemented, when you enter a captive portal, you will see that you will be able to autofill your data so that you can access public Wi-Fi faster.
However, this could make it easier for hackers to steal user credentials if a fraudulent captive portal is created over a public Wi-Fi network in the possession of cybercriminals.
We'll have to see when this new Android feature will be available because it looks like it's still a while until we can see it on our devices.
