Stop buying these two famous iPhones Apple withdraws support for them
Apple is known for being one of the companies that provide the longest support for its products. iPhones typically receive six years of software updates, which means that when you buy an Apple smartphone, we will receive new versions of the operating system and its functions for a long time, but not all functions.
But everything comes to an end, even iPhone support. After a certain period of time, the company decides to stop supporting its devices, and even add them to its list of obsolete products. Now, two iPhone models have been added to this list: the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus are now officially obsolete or “vintage” products from Apple.
What exactly does it mean for Apple to consider an iPhone obsolete or outdated? The Cupertino-based company has an official list of products that will no longer receive support and updates. Apple defines them as follows:
- A legacy or "vintage" product is one that Apple stopped distributing 5 years or more ago, but less than 7 years ago.
An obsolete product is a product that the company has stopped distributing for 7 years or more.
Apple stopped selling the iPhone XS Max in September 2019, after the iPhone 11 arrived. In the case of the iPhone 6s Plus, the company stopped selling it in 2018. So, both are considered “obsolete” products from now on, and next year the company will consider them obsolete and will not receive updates.
Apple states on its official website that the company is discontinuing all hardware services for obsolete products, and repair shops can no longer order parts to repair obsolete devices.
So, both the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus have reached the end of official support. This does not mean that the phones will stop working, they will simply not receive technical services from Apple or software updates: in the case of the iPhone XS Max, iOS 18 will be the last version of the operating system that this smartphone will receive.
