Firefox 137, 128.9 ESR, and 115.22 ESR with tab groups, improved address bar, 8 security updates, and more [Changelog]
The Firefox team has completed Firefox 137.0, 128.9 ESR, and 115.22 ESR. The latter two are security updates. However, Firefox 137 includes a number of new features that you'll certainly be interested in.
The update itself will be released on April 1st (not an April Fool's joke) around the afternoon (Update: Now) via the browser's update function. Let's move on to the new features you can expect in Firefox 137. After introducing vertical tabs in Firefox 136, Mozilla has now integrated a tab group. You may be familiar with this from other browsers.
"An easy way to create a group is to drag one tab onto another, wait until it's highlighted, and then drop it to create the group. Groups can be named and color-coded and are always saved. You can close a group and reopen it later."
The address bar has been refreshed.
- A new, easily accessible button in the address bar lets you easily switch between search engines and search modes. This feature brings the simplicity of mobile Firefox to your desktop version.
- Now, when you refine a search in the address bar, the original term is retained, making it easier to customize your searches and find exactly what you're looking for
Firefox detects when you're on a page with a search function and offers you the option to search using the page's search engine directly in the address bar. Use this option at least twice, and Firefox will suggest adding the search engine to your Firefox browser.
- You can access various address bar search modes using convenient and descriptive keywords (e.g., @Bookmarks, @Tabs, @History, @Actions). If this feature isn't enabled, you can enable it by following our comments.
- You can now use the Firefox address bar as a calculator. Simply enter a calculation and see the result in the address bar's dropdown menu. Clicking on this result copies it to your clipboard.
Further improvements in Firefox 137.0
- Eight security fixes were made. Three of them were rated "high" and also affect Thunderbird. An update will be released for this today (at least, that's what's supposed to be done).
- Now you can sign PDFs without leaving Firefox. Save your signatures for future use.
- Firefox now recognizes all links in PDFs and converts them to hyperlinks.
- HEVC playback support on Linux has been integrated
- Further improvements for developers
