Weird bug makes Windows 11 and Windows 10 take hours to log in
There are many bugs in Windows 11 and Windows 10, some of which come from different updates that end up being fixed, and others that are unknown and very rare.
Someone has discovered a strange bug in Windows 11 and Windows 10 that is causing productivity issues for a company using a Windows workgroup network with different devices connected.
They had been suffering for a week from a bug where computers took several hours to log in.
That is, all Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices in the organization were stuck on the BIOS screen without being able to log in.
A Reddit user shared this story, explaining that he couldn't find any solution online due to the strangeness of this error.
It was eventually discovered that a simple hyphen (-) in the Windows 11 workgroup name was inexplicably causing the system to fail to start.
“Our workgroup name, which mirrored the company name (which legally had a hyphen, e.g., WORK-GROUP), was the culprit. Somehow, this little detail was causing havoc during the Windows boot process and causing severe delays (sometimes it took 2-5 hours for the login screen to appear).”
This is a previously undetected bug, so be careful if you ever think about putting a hyphen in a workgroup name.
Now, after removing the hyphen from the workgroup name, all computers log in immediately as they should.
