Learn what social media sites do after your death

Have you ever wondered what would happen to your social media accounts after you die?

About 8,000 Facebook users die every day, at a rate of about 428 users per hour, which led the site to take regulatory measures towards these accounts, to solve the problem of the accumulation of accounts of deceased people.

Facebook is not the only social networking site that has taken such measures regarding the accounts of deceased individuals, but these measures differ slightly from one network to another, according to the technical website "Digital Information World".

The measures range from permanently closing the account or leaving a sign showing that its owner has passed away, and these measures also include securing the "digital legacy" left by users.

On Facebook, there is a feature that allows the publication of a note by the family confirming the death of this person, which appears at the top of the account page.

Users can also, through the settings option, assign their friends or family members to control or cancel their accounts in the event of their death.

Friends and relatives can also manage the account through a feature called "legacy contact", provided that the original account owner chooses a specific person before his death to manage it after his death.

This person has the authority to share new posts with friends, and to allow the rest of the friends and relatives to send messages of condolence, but Facebook needs clear evidence of the death of the account owner to be able to activate this feature.

As for Instagram, the procedures on this site are identical to those adopted by Facebook, as Instagram asks friends and relatives to inform them of the death of a user by sending them an email confirming his death with documents proving this, such as a photo of the funeral and the announcement...

On Twitter, the deceased person's account remains active until a friend or relative contacts the site's administration to take action on the account. The owner of Twitter says that the account will be permanently deleted from its database upon the request of a family member, after the news of the death has been verified using documents including: presenting a copy of the death certificate and a copy of the ID of the person submitting the request to delete the account.

Despite this, no one will be able to use the deceased person's account, even if they have a relationship with him.
Finally, anyone can use the deceased person's account if they have his email or phone number and the password, or if they know a skilled hacker.
