How to activate the new Lookaround mode to tour cities around the world as if you were there
Back in July, Apple surprised us by releasing a desktop version of its Maps for the browser. This way, you can now access Apple Maps from a Windows PC. It says it’s a beta service, but the apple company is still rolling out improvements before the final version arrives.
On the one hand, until recently the interface was only available in English. But a new update has arrived so that you can enjoy this experimental version of Google Maps for computers in other languages. And this is not the only novelty. Well, you should know that if you use Apple Maps from a Windows computer, you should know that you can now use the Lookaround function. We are talking about an alternative to Google Street View, which will allow you to wander around cities as if you were there.
Please note that Apple Maps Lookaround is not supported in all countries. In this list available on their website, you can see the areas where you can use this service. For example, in Bang Sare (Thailand) it is not available.
If you’ve used Apple Maps on your iPhone or iPad, you already know how this feature works. But if this is your first time doing it, it’s no big deal. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the beta version of Apple Maps through this link
- Type the name of the city you want to walk in.
- If the “Look Around” option is available, you will see a binocular icon appear at the bottom. Click on it.
You will see that a small window automatically opens showing you the real map so you can navigate as you would in Google Street View.
- If you click on the arrows, it will put it in full screen mode, while if you click on Done, you will see that it closes.
Best of all, you’ll be able to navigate in real time. All you have to do is move the viewfinder where you want to continue to see the search mode around Apple Maps. So, given how easy this tool is to use, we recommend trying it out on your computer.
