An important tool from Google to know if your password has been leaked or hacked
“Enter a strong password.” This message, which you will see several times when creating an online account, reminds you that you must take the first step to make it difficult for cybercriminals to hack you. But, as you know, there is little security on the net, and in some cases it is possible that your password has been leaked. For this, there is Google, which has a tool that allows us to know if our password has been found among the list of leaked and hacked passwords.
Knowing whether or not our credentials have been leaked will also give us guidance on the strength of the passwords we choose when signing up for a new service or changing it. From there we have tools like Google Password Checkup, which has this purpose in particular.
To avoid this, we have with us the Google Password Checker extension, a tool capable of telling you if your password has been leaked online, and therefore if you are at risk of information theft. All you need to use this new Google service is Chrome version 67 or later.
To check your passwords, you will have to go to the Google Password Checkup website and click on the big blue button, which will take us to a screen where you will have to identify yourself using your Google account. When you do this, a comprehensive scan will be performed on all your passwords stored in your account, and you will be shown the results, which may vary depending on what you find.
There we will also display the security level of the different passwords we use. Depending on the number of passwords stored and the websites we use, we will have more or less warnings.
