5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Use an SD Card on Your Mobile Phone

Have you noticed that fewer and fewer smartphones include an SD card slot? Many manufacturers choose to add more internal memory to avoid the need to use a microSD card. But why?

External memory cards allow us to expand the storage space of our mobile phone, but they also have many disadvantages and are not always the best option.

- Difficulty finding your files : When you have two storage devices (internal memory and SD card), finding certain files can be difficult. Especially when it comes to photos and media files.

- Performance issues : Some users have reported performance and speed issues when using SD cards on their smartphones. This is because SD cards are usually slower than the internal memory of the devices. This is especially noticeable over time. Also keep in mind that if you only want to use the microSD card to save photos, a UHS-I or Class 10 card will suffice. On the other hand, if you also want to install apps on the SD card, it is better to use a microSD card of Class A1 (they are the fastest).

- Switching to a new smartphone can be complicated : Portable microSD cards are often encrypted. This means that unless they are configured as removable memory, they cannot be read by any other smartphone or device. This can be a problem if you are thinking of changing mobile phones and your SD card is encrypted. In this case, you will have to back up all that data and transfer it manually.

- Malware and Viruses : SD cards can be a gateway for malware and viruses that can harm your device and data. Many people also use SD cards to copy data from their computers, which is one of the most common sources and transmitters of malware. Be careful!

- Higher chance of SD card getting damaged : SD cards are exposed and prone to drops, scratches, or shocks. Moreover, the SD card port in smartphones is a weak point that can get damaged easily. If the card gets damaged, it is likely to get damaged and the data stored on it will be lost as well.

While it may seem like the perfect solution to get more space on your smartphone, it’s actually not always the best alternative (have you thought about saving your files to the cloud or backing them up on your computer from time to time?). It’s important to consider all the factors before deciding whether or not to use an SD card on your device.
